TAMARA WATT - USA
Sep 4th, 2009, 4:14pm

Name: Tamara Watt
Birth Date: June 1978
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 135lbs on-season  145lbs off-season
From: Clearfield, Utah  USA

CONTEST HISTORY
2009 NGA Mountain States - 1st Place in Figure Tall

RFOS Q&A

How long have you been training?
Since fall of 2008, for competition — that was just four weeks after the birth of my daughter. I am lifelong athlete, having worked out and trained since age 13. Just not as intense with my diet and exercise regimen, of course. I have been lifting heavy since my early 20s. (I don't think you can throw heavy bails of hay in the gym — at least not in Utah!!!)

When I checked into the hospital day before my daughter's birth in September 2008, I weighed 179 pounds at 24% body fat. When walked on stage at my first competition, I weighed 134 pounds at 9% body fat. My transformation was very dramatic and exciting to watch unfold over seven months of hard core discipline. For her guidance and support throughout my transformation, I give a HUGE shot out to my friend and mentor, the beautifully fit IFBB Pro Julie Lohre!

What would like to see done to help improve or promote the sport?
I would love to see more of the seasoned athletes and Pros going the extra mile to show others how they achieved their great success. That, in turn, can really help more women and men alike win in fitness and nutrition, and forever stop the roller-coaster ride of obesity!! As Figure competitor, I find myself drawn to the routine aspect of Fitness, even though I have no gymnastics background (only dance). The sport needs more variety: women of every background. All of us have something unique and priceless to bring to the stage!!

What would you like to share about your last contest?
I was very pleased with the promoters and the contestants at the 2009 NGA Mountain States. Everyone was very supportive. I caught myself high-fiving all the women as they exited the stage. It was great seeing their faces light up! An awesome experience, all around. It made me want to be more disciplined and work harder than ever before. It's a great way to evaluate where you are at and keep moving forward setting the next goal!! And not to forget all great treats that night — YUMMY!!

Do you get negative comments from people with regard to your muscles?
Ever since I was a young girl, I have been abnormally strong! So when I was out throwing the bails or lifting heavier it was kind of funny to watch others compete with me. I get interesting looks, I'm sure. That includes when I am putting up more weight than the fellow next to me! But I try not to pay attention to all the negatives. In some ways, though, those sorts of comments or looks help push me a lot harder. Wink

Have you ever surprised yourself with you own strength? Like you forgot you were THAT strong???
Yes, as a matter of fact I have. At the time I did not realize what I lifted until looking back over my journal. That showed me I had doubled my weight!! Get's me pretty pumped, I have to tell ya!!!!

How have you used your physical strength outside the gym, when it has come in handy?
I use to work in a warehouse full of guys lifting heavy boxes. I would throw these boxes up and over my head all day: sometimes more than 111 pounds. I also grew up on a small horse farm, so I am no stranger to hay and heavy lifting. In fact, a lot of people ask for my help with moving and other heavy work, and I love to help them out as much as I can.

Any message for fans?
Of course, were it not for you and your belief in us, I don't think so many of us would push as hard as we do! Just know you can achieve greatness in all that you set your mind to. Be sure to find a credible mentor who can help you along the way. And NEVER, NEVER, NEVER Quit!
