RFOS Q&A

How long have you been training?
On and off for since 1997, but not seriously until I decided to get into Bodybuilding competitions in 2003.

What would like to see done to help improve or promote the sport?
Drug-test all contests. That’s a good place to start. Drug use needs to be toned down, and a healthy and fit side of the sport needs to be promoted more.

Do you get negative comments from people with regard to your muscles?
I’ve had a couple of women tell me they did not wish to be as big as I was. But, overall, it's been very positive. Men particularly are the most vocal in expressing their admiration for all the hard work that goes into it.

Have you ever surprised yourself with you own strength? Like you forgot you were THAT strong???
I can’t say I've surprised myself as all my strength gains have come on slowly over time. Now when I compare my starting weights from years ago to what I’m doing now, well, I’m not so much surprised as I am amazed — and very pleased.

How have you used your physical strength, outside the gym, when it has come in handy?
Absolutely. I’m a police officer and a member of the SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team, so the extra strength comes in handy. My job requires three fitness assessments a year. I’m always in good condition, so I pass them quite easily.

Any message for fans?
Just as in any sport, the fans are one of the reasons to compete. So I never take them for granted. If there’s nobody at the competitions to watch us, then what's the point?

What is the best way to contact you?
