RFOS Q&A How long have you been training? Since November 2006.
What would like to see done to help improve or promote the sport? Television and news coverage of events. More competitions with bigger prizes would attract greater attention and interest from the general public.
What would you like to share about your last meet? I achieved a new personal best (PB) of 130kg (287lbs), 10kg (22lbs) up from my last PB and equal to what one my trainers could deadlift at the time.
Do you get negative comments from people with regard to your muscles? My parents used to tell me that I'd never get a boyfriend if I got too big, but they've since come around. Other than that, most people are impressed. I do get lot of compliments and people wanting to feel my muscles.
Have you ever surprised yourself with you own strength? Like you forgot you were THAT strong??? Sometimes when I'm joking around with someone I might knock them over or punch them a bit too hard.
How have you used your physical strength, outside the gym, when it has come in handy? I've helped some male friends move homes, numerous times — and I end up doing most of the work! It's also great for party tricks: I impressed my family one Christmas by picking up two people at the same time.
Any message for fans? You have to be really dedicated if you want to see results.

What else you would like to share? I work as an artist and graphic designer. A lot of people find it weird that I'm an artist and a Powerlifter, because most artists aren't very athletic and vice versa. Since I have sleep problems, I started Powerlifting as an outlet for all the energy that gets stored up from just sitting at desk/easel all day — so to me it makes perfect sense. I also just like being good at heaps of really different things.
For those interested in learning more about my artwork, you'll find a link to my professional CV (or resume, as it's often known in the States) on my website.
I'd also like to add that Sharon Waters, Australia's Strongest Woman, is a huge inspiration to me, and I'd love to have that title to put next to my bachelor and post-graduate degrees one day.
For the deadlift photograph, I want to thank my friend Vicki O'Brien, whose profile also appears on RFOS.
